Record sales for Apple Inc.
The phenomenal success of Apple Inc. has continued today with the company announcing record sales over the past three months.
The firm made a profit of €2.53bn in the three months to the end of June this year.
They sold a record number of Apple computers and also increased sales of their iPhones. Apple sold 3.47 million computers and laptops during the quarter, a new record, and a 33% increase over the same period last year.
They sold 8.4 million iPhones, a 6.1% increase, while sales of their iPod music players declined by 8% to 9.41 million units.
However, the company sold 3.27 million iPads, its new tablet computer, which goes on sale in Ireland this Friday.
The latest version of the iPhone is also expected to arrive in Irish stores in the coming weeks, giving a further boost to the company’s profits.
“It was a phenomenal quarter that exceeded our expectations all around, including the most successful product launch in Apple’s history with iPhone 4,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.
The company’s European operations headquarters is based in Hollyhill and it is one of Cork’s biggest employers with an approximate staff of 2,000.
