Chambers Ireland’s Transport Users Council has called on the Government to release motor tax revenues raised in 2010 to a once-off emergency fund to repair all of the secondary and tertiary roads that were damaged in the extreme weather conditions last winter.

Chambers Ireland’s Transport Users Council has called on the Government to release motor tax revenues raised in 2010 to a once-off emergency fund to repair all of the secondary and tertiary roads that were damaged in the extreme weather conditions last winter.

Eugene Finnegan, Council chairperson, said: "The fact that over 90% of all goods in Ireland are transported by road underlines the importance of an effective road network. What we currently have is sections of roads that are failing due to the large number of potentially treacherous potholes that have opened over the past winter.
