EU finance ministers meet to save struggling euro
Despite the EU agreeing a multi-billion bailout for Greece the euro is still in crisis.
Today finance minister Brian Lenihan joins EU colleagues in Brussles for the first meeting of a high-level task force assembled in an effort to save the struggling euro currency.
Global markets are continuing to lose confidence in the currency in the belief that other debt-ridden countries like Spain, Portugal, Italy and Ireland could still need a Greek-style bailout.
Today the committee chaired by the European President will attempt to beef up budgetary scrutiny across all member states in a bid to arrest the decline in value of the tumbling euro.
There had been fears that could mean Ireland would be asked to implement tougher budget measures than previously planned.
However, Mr Lenihan yesterday moved to dismiss such claims saying so far the EU "had not asked Ireland to deviate from its original budgetary course".
