United Airlines and Continental Airlines have announced plans to merge, creating the world's biggest carrier.

United Airlines and Continental Airlines have announced plans to merge, creating the world's biggest carrier.

The €3bn deal has yet to be approved by the regulator.

The two airlines currently fly 144 million passengers between them each year.

The new company will retain the United name.
