BoI shares rebound as ISEQ jumps 1%

Shares in Bank of Ireland closed over 6% higher this evening after losing more than 5% at one point.

The bank had unveiled details of a plan to raise €3.4bn in capital in an attempt to avoid nationalisation.

The ISEQ index closed up 36.68 points to 3,497.17.

Elsewhere in the financial sector, Irish Life and Permanent grew by 13c to €3.25, and AIB finished 6c better off on €1.56.

There were similar gains in both the food and drink, as well as the construction sector. Donegal Creameries led the way, jumping 66c to €2.86, and Kerry Group improved 14c to €24.18. CRH gained 45c to €21.95, and Kingspan was up 15c to €7.32.

Elsewhere, Smurfit (up 16c to €7.36) and Irish Continental Group (up 10c to €16.90) also did well.

There were some losses however. DCC (down 25c to €20.90), Elan (down 18c to €5.27) and Tullow Oil (down 10c to €14.20).
