SuperValu to sell €4m worth of Irish turkeys

SuperValu will sell more than €4m worth of Irish turkeys this Christmas.

All of the 95,000 birds are being provided by two Monaghan-based producers, Grove Turkeys Ltd and IGWT Poultry Services Ltd.

The company has a policy of sourcing and selling only 100% Irish meat and poultry.

Donal Horgan, managing director Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland, said their commitment to Irish-based producers included combined Irish retail sales of €1bn worth of fresh food in 2008.

75% of everything sourced by them was either produced or sourced in this country.

This represented total purchases from Irish suppliers in excess of €2.85bn at retail level, serving to both create and protect Irish jobs.
