A conference aimed at changing the emphasis of economic development will be held in Dublin City University today.

The event is organised by the political think-tank TASC and speakers include David Begg of IMPACT and journalist Fintan O'Toole.

TASC said during the Celtic Tiger, GNP and GDP were high, but inequality was rife so these measurements should not be used as guides for recovery.

Director Paula Clancy said there are fears that the Government is simply repeating policies that have failed in the past.
