British prime minister Gordon Brown is setting up a National Economic Council to help Britain through the financial crisis by co-ordinating economic policies across his Government, it was announced today.

British prime minister Gordon Brown is setting up a National Economic Council to help Britain through the financial crisis by co-ordinating economic policies across his Government, it was announced today.

Chaired by Brown, the council will meet frequently to assess the implications of on-going problems in the financial markets and the impact of global commodity price fluctuations on the UK economy.
