BP chairman upbeat about economy

The chairman of BP predicted today that global economic conditions will remain difficult for some time but will eventually recover due to growth in China and the rest of Asia.

Peter Sutherland, the chairman of both BP and Goldman Sachs International, spoke as political and business leaders met in the northern Italian town of Cernobbio, against the backdrop of the current crisis in financial markets.
