The FTSE 100 Index slipped more than 1% today in a fifth straight session of losses for London’s leading shares.

Weaker commodity prices and US economic concerns led to caution among investors as the Footsie closed 63.9 points down at 5831.6 – a week after closing above the 6000 barrier for the first time since February.
