Health campaigners in the UK today urged parents to check food labels for salt content after research revealed that children with higher salt diets have higher blood pressure.

Analysis of the diets of more than 1,600 youngsters found a strong link between salt intake and systolic blood pressure after factors such as age, sex and body mass index had been taken into account.
