An app has been launched to help tackle the “shocking and unnecessary levels” of salt hidden inside shoppers’ food baskets.

Health campaigners in the UK today urged parents to check food labels for salt content after research revealed that children with higher salt diets have higher blood pressure.

MANY so called healthy meals found in fast food restaurants and cafes contain just as much salt as the much maligned Big Mac and French fries, a new survey has shown.

Cereal manufacturer Kellogg’s has cut salt levels in some of its products by 25%, the company said.
