Directors of Britain’s top companies saw their pay soar 37% last year, with chief executives receiving an average of £2,875,000 (€4,230,817) a new survey has found.

For the first time the salaries, bonuses and benefits paid to FTSE-100 company executives topped £1bn (€1.4bn), according to the study, which will be published in The Guardian tomorrow.
