IBEC group: Rapid measures key to FMD strategy
The Irish Dairy Industry Association (IDIA), the IBEC group that represents the Irish dairy processing industry, has expressed concern at the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the UK.
IDIA Director Michael Barry said: "Foot and mouth has the potential to inflict serious damage on all levels of the Irish agri-food industry. It is crucial that Ireland adopts a science-based approach in identifying and managing the risks associated with this highly contagious disease.
"Irish dairy processors are ready and prepared to implement whatever control measures are necessary and await guidance from the expert committee of the Department of Agriculture and Food.
"It is important that rapid and effective measures are adopted to eliminate any risks posed to Ireland's industry resulting from the UK outbreak."
