Consumers' body calls on Govt to control supermarket prices
Calls have been made for the Government to impose a maximum price order on food, after the latest Eurostat survey showed our groceries cost 25% more than the European average.
Denmark is the only EU country where groceries are more expensive than in Ireland.
Ireland is the most expensive country to buy alcohol, at 81% more than our European neighbours, while tobacco costs 86% more.
Michael Kilcoyne of the Consumers' Association said the Government needs to stop supermarkets overcharging.
