Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin today welcomed plans by Equifax Inc to expand its Irish operation in Wexford.
Equifax, a global information solutions company and the largest credit reporting company in the US, is to expand at Whitemill Industrial Estate, with the support of IDA Ireland.
“This is excellent news for the Equifax Wexford operation as it further consolidates the company’s presence in the town, underpins the existing jobs and significantly increases total employment,” said Minister Martin.
“I congratulate the Wexford staff and management for the great success of the operation, a factor which played a large part in the winning of this investment.
“Other influencing factors were Equifax’s positive experiences of an Irish regional location, such as a strong supply of high quality graduates and skilled people, a wide choice of property solutions supported by an international standard infrastructure and an excellent quality of life for all.”
The move will result in a range of new functions being added at the Wexford operation and Wexford’s designation as the primary support centre for a number of the company’s European services.
The Wexford operation currently employs 95 permanent people, and 45 on temporary contract, in high quality activities.
Under the expansion, 180 new permanent high-quality positions will be added during the next five years.
The company has indicated that the people on temporary contract will have the opportunity to fill 45 of these new positions.
As 65% of the existing staff has third level qualifications Equifax is seeking to maintain this ratio with the new recruitment.
To cater for the expansion the company is also to relocate to new premises on the IDA Business & Technology Park at Drinagh, Wexford, by the fourth quarter of this year.
“With 80% of our business currently being generated in the US, we are placing a heavy focus on expanding our international presence,” said Equifax Ireland country manager Sandra Lawrence.
“This investment in the Wexford operation is a vital element in that strategy. The Irish operation’s performance and superior quality of service, the availability of suitable people to work in Wexford and the country’s pro-business attitude and business incentives make Ireland an ideal location for this new investment and the consolidation there of several activities in support of our European operation.”
