Iarnód Éireann reports record passenger growth in 2006

Iarnód Éireann has reported record growth in passenger numbers during 2006.

The company says more than 43 million journeys were taken on its network during the year, up 14% on the figure for 2005.

The increase makes Iarnód Éireann Europe's fastest-growing railway.

The company says further investment and expansion is planned for 2007 and it expects annual passenger numbers to hit 50 million in the near future.
