The pound eased away from the two-dollar mark today after trading within a whisker of its highest level since sterling was ejected from the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM) in 1992.

The pound eased away from the two-dollar mark today after trading within a whisker of its highest level since sterling was ejected from the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM) in 1992.

The pound settled at 1.9494 US dollars having hit 1.9545 US dollars earlier in the day as fears over the weak US economy continued to put pressure on the greenback.
