The broadcasting industry is digesting a surprise move by BSkyB to buy a major stake in ITV.

The satellite firm announced last night it had spent £940m (€1.4bn) on a 17.9% stake in the commercial broadcaster, which it described as one of Europe’s premier TV businesses with substantial long-term potential.
