Visitor numbers up 90,000 in Ryder Cup month

The Ryder Cup appears to have prompted a huge boost in visitors to Ireland.

New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that an extra 90,000 tourists arrived during September compared to the same month last year.

The number of visitors from North America was up 19% to 121,000.

Minister for Tourism John O'Donoghue says the figures are evidence of the hard work done by various bodies in securing and promoting the Ryder Cup.
