TEEU votes in favour of new partnership agreement

The Technical Engineering and Electrical Union has voted in favour of accepting the new partnership agreement.

The country's largest union in the electrical trade said 82% of its members voted by postal ballot to accept 'Towards 2016', following a recommendation to do so by the union's leadership.

TEEU General Secretary Owen Wills says implementing the new deal is the best way to protect employee rights.

“It's the best we could get in negotiations and I believe that they are substantial improvements on where we were”, he said. "There's a lot of work still to be done to put the legislation and the framework around it.”

Mr Willis added, “If people commit themselves to do what they have agreed to then it would be a major step for employment rights in this country.”
