450 Amazon jobs for Cork Airport park

Global internet retailers Amazon are expected to announce the creation of up to 450 new jobs in Cork within the next 24 hours.

The company are to locate at the Airport Business Park and create high-quality employment for people with multi-lingual skills.

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin is expected to make the announcement from Seattle, where is currently meeting with several state-side companies.

It is thought that Cork beat off competition from Glasgow and Dublin for the new jobs. Amazon provides a hugely popular online shopping service from the world’s biggest selection of books magazines, music, DVDs, videos, electronics, computers, software, apparel and accessories.

The announcement comes on the back of the 1,100 jobs that were recently confirmed in Carrigtwohill by Amgen.

It will be welcomed after a number of losses also this year, including 180 jobs lost at GN ReSound on Model Farm Road and 84 at CIMS in Mahon earlier this year.
