Consumers facing rises in cost of postage and transport

Consumers are facing rises in the cost of postage and public transport next year following decisions made yesterday by the Government and the Communications Regulator.

The Government approved an increase of almost 4% on CIE bus and rail services, as well as the LUAS tram system in Dublin.

CIE and LUAS had both asked for increases of 7.5%.

ComReg, meanwhile, approved a 30c increase in the cost of posting large envelopes and packages, but rejected An Post's request for a 12c rise in the cost of a basic postage stamp.
