Young Irish adults are the most likely age group to go into severe debt at Christmas, according to a company that provides information to businesses about consumers.

Experian Ireland said a survey it carried out found that people aged 17 to 25 were particularly susceptible to overspending during the festive season.

It said this age group was most likely to resort to using credit cards, which often leave people with debts they are unable to repay.
