ICTU to finalise plans for Irish Ferries day of protest
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions is due to meet today to finalise plans for a national day of protest in solidarity with Irish Ferries workers.
All four of the company's vessels are tied up at currently tied up at various ports because of a dispute over the company's plans to replace its staff with cheaper labour from eastern Europe.
The Labour Relations Commission is expected to hold further talks with both sides in the row later today after failing to find a resolution during exploratory discussions yesterday.
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions is already refusing to enter talks on a new social partnership deal until it receives assurances from the Government and employers that "job displacement" will not be allowed to take place.
