Minister welcomes Russian vessel to Killybegs
Marine Minister Pat the Cope Gallagher today welcomed the arrival of the MV Konstantin Paustovskiy, a cargo vessel arriving at Killybegs from St Petersburg carrying sawn spruce timber.
This is the first timber shipment from the Baltic to Killybegs and it has been imported and distributed by local firm, Beatty Shipping Services Ltd.
It is part of a six weekly cycle liner service operating from the Baltic to Killybegs, which it is hoped will expand to include additional products.
"The arrival of this vessel highlights the growing importance of Killybegs as a cargo destination," said Mr Gallagher.
An investment in Killybegs of €50m marked the largest single investment in a fishing harbour in the history of the State and a number of marketing activities have been undertaken to market Killybegs as a dynamic general cargo port.
