Telecoms stocks weighed on the London market today as new developments in two takeover tales failed to inspire investors.

Cable & Wireless was the heaviest blue-chip faller as traders gave a lukewarm reception to its acquisition of Energis, with stock nearly 5% or 7.75p to 155.25p lower by lunchtime.
