The Society of the Irish Motor Industry has welcomed the official completion of the final phase of the M50 Motorway tomorrow and called for future development to follow similar paths.

Cyril McHugh chief executive SIMI said the opening of the final phase of the M50 is a significant step and will go some way towards alleviating the problem of traffic congestion in and around Dublin.

"What is most impressive is the fact that this project is being launched two months ahead of the anticipated conclusion time," said Mr McHugh.

"It is important the Government now ensures all of its infrastructural projects continue with the same sense of efficiency and speedy delivery and that the self imposed obstacle of the Toll Bridge on the M50 is eliminated."
