Belfast hi-tech firm clinches Swedish software deal

A Belfast-based broadcast technology company has won a significant contract from the Swedish Space Corporation, it was announced today.

Latens Systems has supplied its innovative Content and Protection software system to enable SSC to offer television companies greater broadcasting security for pay TV, video on demand and other digital broadcasting services.

The system also offers the Stockholm-based corporation significant savings in running costs.

Latens won the contract after taking part in an Invest Northern Ireland trade mission to Scandinavia.

Commercial director Andy Mathieson said: “This contract is a very important endorsement of our innovative technology by one of Europe’s leading providers of satellite services for broadcasters.”

Latens was established in Belfast in 2002 as an inward investment and Mr Mathieson said they had also used the cost-effective Invest NI trade missions to raise their profile in other global markets and develop a position in emerging regions such as the Czech republic and other recent EU member states.

The company currently employs 40 staff in Belfast and sales offices in London and Atlanta in the USA.
