The ISEQ closed the week on a positive note today, climbing 17.41 to finish the day at 6,294.07.

The ISEQ closed the week on a positive note today, climbing 17.41 to finish the day at 6,294.07.

Banking shares were mixed today. Bank of Ireland shares surged 16c to €12.77 but Allied Irish Bank shares fell 22c to €16.85.

Shares in Anglo Irish Bank climbed 4c to €9.72 while Irish Life & Permanent shares climbed 5c to €13.75.

Bookmaker Paddy Power saw shares leap 27c to €14.22 today. This follows bullish comments in the UK on the online gaming sector by poker group PartyGaming, which announced its flotation plans yesterday.

Jury's Doyle Group, which has been the subject of takeover speculation recently, fell 25c to €15.25 today.

Shares in Elan climbed 23c to €5.70 in another topsy-turvy week for the Irish pharmaceutical giant.

Ryanair shares edged 1c higher to €6.66 today. The airline said today it welcomed the latest market share results, which showed Ryanair "is the No 1 choice for passengers travelling in Ireland/UK".

FBD was the day's biggest riser, climbing 50c to €23.80 today.

The most traded shares on the ISEQ today were Bank of Ireland, Ryanair, Anglo Irish Bank, AIB, and CRH.
