New Consumer Protection Agency planned

The establishment of a new consumer protection agency will be announced on Wednesday.

The National Consumer Agency will replace the Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs and can impose fines, or closure orders on rogue businesses.

It follows a report by the Consumer Strategy Group which found the public felt helpless in the fight against our perceived "rip off" culture.
