The owner of Thomson holidays and Britannia Airways saw UK customer numbers rise almost 15% during a solid start to the year, figures showed today.

German firm Tui said positive trends for its tour operator business in the UK lifted first-quarter figures in the Northern Europe division, which carried 1.18 million customers in the period, up 8.4% on a year earlier.
