The ISEQ endured a tough start to the week today, falling below the 6000 landmark to close the day down 103.65 to 5,977.74.

Financial stocks fared poorly today.

Shares in Allied Irish Bank slumped 27c to €16.19 while Bank of Ireland's share price fell 18c to €12.17.

Anglo-Irish Bank shares fell 25c today to €18.05 while Irish Life & Permanent shares dropped 25c to €13.60.

Elsewhere shares in budget airline Ryanair dropped 19c to 5.67 today. The airline announced this morning that it is getting rid of its paid-for in-flight entertainment system due to poor customer demand.

Shares in FBD Holdings fell 30c to €22.60 today despite the opening of the Castleknock Hotel and Country Club, in which FBD is a part-owner through the Tower Group.

Meanwhile on the new Irish Enterprise Exchange (IEX) shares in Ormonde Mining climbed 1c to 17c today.

The Board of Ormonde Mining today confirmed a resolution proposed for consideration at the company's Extraordinary General Meeting in Dublin had been approved.

The most traded shares today were AIB, CRH, Anglo-Irish Bank, Irish Life & Permanent and Bank of Ireland.
