ComReg: Vodafone and 02 must open access to networks

The Communications Regulator has spelled out what it expects Vodafone and O2 to do to introduce more competition in the mobile phone market.

The Communications Regulator has spelled out what it expects Vodafone and O2 to do to introduce more competition in the mobile phone market.

It wants both companies to provide access to other Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) on their networks, which should lead to a fall in prices for consumers.

Gary Healy of ComReg said: “What we’re hoping is that both Vodafone and O2 will come to commercial agreements with access seekers, but if they don’t, what we’ve said is that we will intervene in the market to make sure the access agreements are agreed.”
