ITV production staff vote to strike

Technicians and other production staff at ITV have voted to strike in a dispute over pay, it was announced today.

Broadcasting workers’ union Bectu said it will announce after Easter when strikes will be held, and warned that programmes including Coronation Street and Emmerdale faced disruption.

Workers voted by 55% in favour of walkouts in protest at a below-inflation pay offer.

Gerry Morrissey, the union’s assistant general secretary, said: “It is unacceptable that ITV executives award themselves huge share bonuses but will not give their workers a pay rise in line with inflation.”

The dispute involves several hundred broadcasting staff at ITV, which runs Granada, Yorkshire and LWT.
