Musgrave sign electricity deal
The retail franchise division of the country’s largest food distributorhas signed a two-year contract extension with electricity firm Energia, the has reported.
Musgrave SuperValu-Centra (MSVC), who signed the deal, is the retail division of the Musgrave Group.
The move secures Energia’s role as the preferred electricity supplier to 540 independent SuperValu and Centra stores throughout the country.
Energia has offices in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Belfast.
Musgrave Group and MSVC is the retail franchise division of Musgrave Group, which serves 24% of the Irish market for groceries through its retail franchise business, marketed under the SuperValu and Centra brands.
The total electricity spend of the 540-plus SuperValu and Centra stores in Ireland will be more than €40m over two years.
This is the equivalent power usage of more than 80,000 homes.
A separate contract to supply power to major Musgrave Group sites has also been renewed in a further two-year deal worth €2m.
The number of Musgrave Group sites supplied by Energia will increase from five to 12 in Cork, Dublin, Galway, Donegal, Waterford and Limerick.
Tim Hoban, finance director of Musgrave SuperValu-Centra, said they had been very impressed with the service Energia had provided to their retail franchise customers over the past year.
Alan Mulcahy, regional sales manager with Energia, said they saw the contract as “a reflection of the faith they have in our ability to consistently supply them with a cost-effective product.”
Energia supplies power from its 343MW gas-fired generator facility in north Dublin.
