Financials suffer as ISEQ slips today
The ISEQ index slipped back more than 19 points today despite an afternoon rally, as financial stocks fared badly.
The ISEQ closed this afternoon at 6.088.99, down 19.05.
Shares in Allied Irish Bank fell 16c today to €14.94 although Bank of Ireland did buck the trend, climbing 5c to €11.80.
Anglo Irish Bank shares were down 22c to €17.23 while Irish Life & Permanent shares plummeted 30c to €13.25.
Elsewhere shares in Qualceram Shires dropped 27c to €1.75 today after the bathroom product maker warned weakness in its key UK market was effecting its margins.
Ryanair fell 9c today to €5.53 as a resurgent oil price hit fuel-dependent stocks.
Pharmaceutical giant Elan climbed 13c today to €19.95.
The most traded shares today were AIB, Bank of Ireland, CRH, Kerry and Ryanair.
