Citygroup to confirm Belfast jobs boost

One of the world’s leading financial institutions was today poised to announce it is setting up an IT operation in Belfast creating 400 jobs.

The multi-million euro investment by Citygroup is expected to be confirmed tomorrow.

The US company, which has interests in banking, investment management and insurance, employs about 300,000 people in 100 countries across the world.

It has had a presence in the UK for more than 100 years and will be opening a back office IT operation in Belfast which is expected to service some of its US and European bases.

Invest Northern Ireland and Britain's Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment remained tight lipped, but admitted they were on the verge of a major announcement.

It will be another big boost for Northern Ireland and its growing reputation among international companies as a site for IT jobs.

Just last month Northbrook Technologies said it was boosting its already substantial local employment by 660 – 400 jobs in Belfast and 260 split between Derry and Strabane, Co Tyrone.
