Lisheem agrees major contract with Ecocem

Lisheen Mines, the Tipperary-based mining subsidiary of Anglo American Plc., has awarded a major supply contract for environmentally friendly cement to Ecocem.

Lisheen Mines, the Tipperary-based mining subsidiary of Anglo American Plc., has awarded a major supply contract for environmentally friendly cement to Ecocem.

Ecocem which operates a pollution free cement manufacturing facility in Dublin Port.

Lisheen, which is one of Europe’s largest zinc and lead mining operation, will use up to 120,000 tonnes of Ecocem cement over the four year term of the contract. The move will lead to the elimination of up to 120,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere.

Lisheen has recently invested €11m in the construction of a state-of-the-art paste backfill plant. This follows an additional €8m investment in a tailings management facility upgrade last year.

Lisheen employs over 300 people producing in excess of 300,000 tonnes of zinc and lead concentrates each year primarily for export to global markets.
