New Shannon-Gatwick easyJet service to start

Budget carrier EasyJet will commence a daily service from Cork Airport and Shannon Airport to London Gatwick on January 28, 2005.

The service will increase to twice daily from Summer 2005. Martin Moroney, Shannon airport director, said it was “an important development for Shannon Airport as it will provide 160,000 seats annually for the mid-west region and will greatly benefit tourism and business interests".

"Most importantly it will provide daily access for the local community to London and the South of England, as well as major European cities including, Athens, Milan, Madrid, Naples, Venice, Prague, Budapest and Nice," said Mr Moroney.

Seats go on sale today.

Aer Rianta today welcomed the announcement by Easyjet that it will commence new services from London Gatwick to Cork and Shannon Airports in January 2005.

Between them the new services will add some 900 seats a day between London and the Munster region; 600 a day at Cork and 300 a day initially at Shannon, it said.
