Fans snapping up kits in the run-up to the Euro 2004 football tournament helped sportswear firm Umbro to a 51% rise in profits today.

Maiden results from the company, which floated on the stock market in June, also showed turnover in the six months to July 4 rose 36.4% to £94.1m (€138.2m) as pre-tax profits hit £10.4m (€15.3m) for the half-year period.
