Digiweb, Ireland's fastest expanding broadband services provider, achieved another milestone today with the simultaneous launch of live licensed broadband services in Cork City and County, and the official opening of its new office in Cork City.

This step provides high speed broadband access to business, home and education users throughout Cork.

The new services and launch were announced by Communications Minister Dermot Ahern and Councillor Mary Shields, Deputy Lord Mayor of Cork City, at a morning reception at the Gresham Metropole Hotel in Cork.

Launching the service today, Minister Ahern said: "This launch by Digiweb of its broadband services in the Cork region is a very welcome boost to the market, providing customers and business with competition and choice. The more players we have in the broadband market the better. This is a most welcome initiative."

Digiweb was awarded 16 licenses by ComReg over the past year to deploy broadband access around the country, and on being recently awarded a license for Cork in July, the company moved swiftly to establish a new office, recruit staff and construct its broadband access network.

Digiweb Cork will service the city and county, and will also support broadband services throughout the entire South West and Mid West regions.
