Eurostar dispute expected to escalate

A dispute involving workers at Eurostar is expected to escalate today when union leaders will meet to consider balloting workers for industrial action.

Staff based at the British train company's terminals in Ashford, Kent and London’s Waterloo staged a 24-hour strike on Saturday over pay, which the company said had not affected services.

Leaders of the Rail Maritime and Transport Union are expected to announce later today that a second group of workers, including engineers, will now be balloted in another row over pay.

Around 380 workers are involved in this dispute.

Eurostar said all its trains left on time on Saturday despite the strike.
