Low-carb Rolos and KitKats launched

Nestlé Ireland today announced that its major brands KitKat and Rolo are now available on the Irish market in low-carb versions.

This is the first time that a mainstream confectionery manufacturer has created low-carb versions of its leading brands.

In the United States, a comprehensive range of low-carb variants of food products has become available over the last number of years to cater for this growing market.

This consumer trend is also becoming evident in Ireland. Nestlé Ireland states that research indicates that in Ireland almost one in three adults is trying to lose weight 'most of the time'.

Nestlé Ireland’s marketing manager Louise Shortall said: "It is notable tha,t in the US over the last few years, a comprehensive range of low-carb versions of existing food products, from breakfast cereals to soft drinks, have become available.

“In fact, most stores in the US have dedicated aisles to cater for the estimated 10% of US adults who are following a low-carb lifestyle.

“We are pleased to be the first to offer people a low-carb choice in two of Ireland's leading confectionery brands.

“Standard KitKat and Rolo are extremely popular products in Ireland. We can now offer low-carb versions of these chocolate favourites to people who wish to follow a low-carb lifestyle."
