British withdraw £144.1bn from ATMs in 2003
Britons withdrew a record £144.1bn (€216.6bn) from cash machines during 2003, the equivalent of £4,570 (€6,870) a second, figures showed today.
Britain's Association of Payment Clearing Services (APACS) said people used ATMs to get 53% of the cash they used during the year, with other sources of cash including cashing cheques, getting cash over the counter at banks and building societies, cash-back and cash advances on credit cards.
