Ahern highlights importance of US investment
The Taoiseach has highlighted the importance of US investment in Ireland at the US Chamber of Commerce in Ireland business lunch today.
But he warned social partners must continue to compromise if Irish growth is to continue.
Mr Ahern was speaking at the lunch in the Alexander Hotel in Dublin today.
"Everyone here knows of the pivotal role that US investment played in transforming Ireland over the past decade or so," said Mr Ahern.
"Faced with any number of low-cost economies or countries offering far larger marketplaces, US multinationals continue to choose Ireland. They do so because we offer a pro-business climate, a talented workforce and policy credibility."
But the Taoiseach warned people not to expect a return of the booming 'Celtic Tiger' days - and warned employers and unions must continue to work together.
"Social partnership is critical. It is incumbent on all of the social partners to recognise that its success has always involved engagement and compromise."
