The rise of the internet, mobile phones, text messaging and emails was today taken into account in an updated code of practice for British journalists working in newspapers and magazines.

The Press Complaints Commission has ratified an extension to the ban on intercepting private telephone conversations to include private mobile telephone calls, messages or emails, except in cases where the public interest can be demonstrated.
