EU competition commissioner Mario Monti has said that the European Commission's decision to fine Microsoft Corp €497.2m for abusing its market power in the EU is in the interest of innovation and consumers.

EU competition commissioner Mario Monti has said that the European Commission's decision to fine Microsoft Corp €497.2m for abusing its market power in the EU is in the interest of innovation and consumers.

In a press conference he said: "In the end we decided to do what was best for innovation and for European consumers".
