Coca-Cola to recall Dasani bottled water

Coca-Cola Co has confirmed it is withdrawing its Dasani brand of bottled water from the UK from today, a spokeswoman in London said.

The recall of about 500,000 bottles of Dasani, which applies only to the British market, had already begun and is expected to be complete within 24 hours, according to Reuters news agency.

Earlier reports said the company is recalling 500,000 bottles over concerns on the level of bromate in the product, although it also said the water does not pose an immediate health risk.

The product has been controversial in the UK press when it became known that the company was using the mains supply to its factory in Sidcup as the source for its water, although the company claims the water goes through a "highly sophisticated purification process".
