Eircom plans to raise fixed line rental costs

It is being claimed that the Minister for Communications, Dermot Ahern, may have to intervene this week to prevent eircom from increasing phone charges.

The company has plans to increase its fixed line rental price for customers.

This would see monthly bills jump by €1.68.

Mr Ahern is to go before the Dáil Communications Committee on Wednesday to outline his views on the need for competition in the market.
